The “Bologna Process” is a reform, initiated in the European Union (EU), which aims at achieving common standards for higher education in the EU by 2010. The reform involves 46 European countries.
The Holy See has also joined the project, and on September 19, 2007, it established the Agency for the Evaluation and Promotion of Quality in Ecclesiastical Universities and Faculties (AVEPRO).
This organization promotes assessment of the quality of research and teaching and evaluates whether or not international standards are maintained. For this reason, each pontifical educational institution has created a Quality Assurance Office (QAO), an office which aims at implementing self-evaluation methods to promote the quality of education and research.

QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE – P.U.L.
Founded November 2009, the Quality Assurance Office of the Pontifical Lateran University is made up of representatives of the various academic entities and serves to analyze and supervise university standards in relation to those proposed by AVEPRO.

Among the first initiatives are the distribution of assessment forms used by the students to evaluate their courses. A second phase will provide assessment forms for the evaluation of services and university life. These aim at a harmonic process of internal self-assessment regarding the Lateran’s faculties, offices, and services.
