WELCOME TO THE STUDENT INFORMATION SERVICE  OF THE PONTIFICAL LATERAN UNIVERSITY AND PONTIFICAL JOHN PAUL II INSTITUTE FOR STUDIES ON MARRIAGE AND FAMILY.


This service is aimed to those wishing to find out more about the Pontifical Lateran University.

In the following pages, you will find in information on our Faculties and Institutes, and there particular teaching conditions.

We pride ourselves, for example, on a favorable teacher-student ratio, the personalisation of the student-teacher relationship through tutoring, easy access to the General Library and to the new satellite libraries with special workstation reserved for doctoral students, open from Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 6,30 p.m., computer and multimedia rooms with Internet link, a university bookshop on campus, photo-copy center on campus, campus dining hall offering special prices for teachers and students, and other services aiming to improving the quality of student life.

In our University it is also possible to meet students and teachers coming from all continents: in fact the  4.000 students of the Roman campus come from over 100 countries while the teachers come from 20 countries. The University has 47 associated centres across the world.

In order to favour access to study, the Pontifical Lateran University, thanks to the contribution of the Foundation Civitas Lateranensis, provides study assistance as follows:

- study bursaries reserved for priests and lay people consisting of food and board at Collegium Lateranense,
- work-study grants  linked to part-time service collaboration in the University,
- allowances, in tribute to past Rectors and benefactors of the Pontifical Lateran University

HOW CAN YOU ENROLL AT THE PONTIFICAL LATERAN UNIVERSITY OR PONTIFICAL JOHN PAUL II INSTITUTE ?


From January 15 to March 30, non-Italian student coming from a country requiring visa could preregister for 2004-2005academic year (cfr. Diplomatic procedure)


Registration : from June 1st  – October 15th

The documents required for a first registration are as follows:

- request for registration (available also from the secretariat);
- original of study certificate allowing access to university in the student’s own country (e. g. High School certificate);
- birth certificate;
- three photographs;
- letter of recommendation, from superior (if religious), from Seminary rector (if seminarian), from church authority (if lay person);
- certificate of extra collegiality (for priests from outwith the diocese of Rome and not resident in a designated residency).

Lay Students with a mother language other than Italian must also provide:

- A certificate of participation in an italian language course from a recognised institute, or an entrance examination in the Faculty or to attend and pass the language course examination held in the university.
- original study certificates giving access to university study in the student’s own country (e.g. High School), accompanied by a translation, certified as correct, approved by the Italian diplomatic authority in the home country. This authority must also provide a declaration that the certificates produced give right of access to university in the home country.
- a photocopy of the passport
- a permission to stay in Italy for study, given by the Italian authorities

DIPLOMATIC PROCEDURE FOR STUDENTS COMING FROM COUNTRIES REQUIRING VISA AND RESIDENCY PERMITS FOR ITALY….


The registration fees gives the right to follow classes, pass exams,  receive the student ID card, access the University Library, reserve a workstation in the satellite libraries.
