BURSARIES AND GRANTS


Students allowance

In order to favour access to study, the Pontifical Lateran University, thanks to the contribution of the Foundation Civitas Lateranensis, provides study assistance as follows:

- Study bursaries reserved for priests and lay people consisting of food and board at Collegium Lateranense. - Work-study grants linked to part-time service collaboration in the University. - Allowances, in tribute to past Rectors and benefactors of the Pontifical Lateran University.

Requests for study bursaries must be sent to the Rector of the Pontifical Lateran University before December 31 of every year and must include an official request from the Bishop of the candidate’s diocese, the candidate’s curriculum vitae and a photocopy of previous study certificates, including the High School leaving certificate. A special Commission will examine all the requests. The study grant will be made known to the candidate before May 30th of every year. The Rector can forward requests for bursaries to the Foundation Civitas Lateranensis and other similar institutions.

Financial study aids linked to the university-work study programme are intended exclusively for payment of registration fees. The work-study programme concerns auxiliary service in the library, administration and management sectors. Applications for the work-study programme can cover semester or summer activities, according to pre-defined time blocks. The direct  organisation and content of a work-study activity is defined within each office or service. Applications to take p a rt in the work-study programme should reach the University Rector, through the General Secretary’s Office, before October 15th of each academic year. On this date, applications will be evaluated according to revenue, date of application and (if necessary) age.

Allowances, in tribute to past Rectors and benefactors of the Pontifical Lateran University, are open to competition yearly. Requests must be presented before October 15 of every year, following the requirements set out in regulations.

Allowances

Faculty of Theology: Annual Bursary competition for 5 “John Paul II” study grants, in memory of Cardinal Marella and in honour of St. Francis of Paul. One of the five bursaries is reserved for a student of Polish nationality, one for a first year bachelors degree student, one for a seminarian or religious in the bachelors programme. Utriusque Iuris Institute: Bursary Competition for 8 study grants in honour of Bishop Vetrano, Cardinal Poletti, Cardinal Di Iorio and Prof. Canaletti Gaudenti. One grant is reserved to a student from the diocese of Rome. Redemptor Hominis Pastoral Institute: Bursary Competition for 4 study grants in honour of Profs. Goldie, Biselli, Turchi.

Work-study grants and allowances must not be combined.

Residence in Rome

Clerical students coan be housed in the different colleges authorised by the Congregation for Catholic Education. Information can be obtained from the Congregation or from the Vicariat of Rome. Lay students can be welcomed in many of the guest houses run by religious orders in Rome.
