“To spread throughout the world the values of the Lateran University, to preserve its traditions, and to provide economic support for its initiatives.” These are the objectives of the International Lateran Association (Associazione Internazionale Lateranense or “AILat”), founded in 1996 through the initiative of students, alumni, faculty and former faculty, staff, and friends of the Pontifical Lateran University and its related institutes. Among the purposes of the Association is the aim to establish and maintain relations between all those – students, teachers, and friends – who have been linked to the University. One of its initiatives is the organization of the “Lateran Day” (Giornata Lateranense), a traditional moment of reunion, usually held in May, for all who belong to the Association. It also organizes an annual cash prize for the best doctoral thesis.
The Association is governed by a board chaired by His Eminence Edmund Casimir Cardinal Szoka.
